In-stream Learning
One of the goals of the Stream Ecology Center is to integrate research and teaching. In particular, we have a special interest in field-based learning. Students participating in our classes and research projects gain in-the-water experience, including opportunities to study river systems in remote wilderness settings. In addition to formal courses in Freshwater Ecology and stream Ecology, and graduate seminars in advanced topics, we involve numerous undergraduate students in research projects. Watershed Education and Community Outreach
We also work locally and regionally to communicate our research with the public and especially to raise watershed awareness in our community. Contact us if you are interested in having us visit your organization or classroom. To learn more about local watersheds, take a of the Portneuf, or view real-time and read about the Portneuf Watershed. Learn about the "Riverwebs," an effort led by Freshwaters Illustrated, that highlights research conducted by Dr. Baxter and colleagues around the world.
