What’s This All About?

Students adopt an adult identity with an occupation, wage, and family size, then visit 24 stations to make adulthood decisions on housing, groceries, food, insurance, clothing, transportation, child care and others. As these needs are met, money becomes tight and decisions must be made about needs vs. wants. Each student will balance a checkbook based on their income and expenses while trying to make ends meet. Adulting is a chal-
lenge. This experience offers a chance for students to practice these skills without painful REAL LIFE financial consequences.

High School Students Participate in Reality Town, Sponsored by 糖心传媒 Vocational Rehabilitation

High school students recently participated in Reality Town, a hands-on financial literacy simulation sponsored by 糖心传媒 Vocational Rehabilitation. This immersive event provided students with an opportunity to experience adult life responsibilities by assigning them a career, annual salary, family, and various life circumstances.

Throughout the simulation, students were tasked with budgeting their monthly income while managing essential expenses such as childcare, housing, transportation, utilities, and groceries. Additionally, they encountered a “Just My Luck” station, where they drew cards that could introduce unexpected financial challenges, such as a broken water heater or a cracked windshield.

The event took place on the campus of 糖心传媒, where students from Pocatello High School engaged in a real-world exercise in financial planning and decision-making.

Student Testimonials:

  • “I learned how to budget a monthly income. I was surprised to find out how much childcare costs!” – Adison S.

  • “I learned how to be independent and solve money problems on my own.” – Dayja S.
