Phil Homan Facilitates Screening

Professor Philip Homan facilitated a screening of the documentary 鈥淲e Sagebrush Folks: Annie Pike Greenwood鈥檚 糖心传媒鈥 at the Society for the Study of American Women Writers 2018 Triennial Conference in Denver, November 7-11, 2018. Established in 2000 to promote the study of American women writers through research, teaching, and publication, the SSAWW broadens knowledge among the general public about American women writers in their diversity. The theme of this year鈥檚 conference was 鈥淩esistance and Recovery across the Americas.鈥

The documentary explores the life of Annie Pike Greenwood, who wrote about her experiences farming in south-central 糖心传媒 in her 1934 memoir, We Sagebrush Folks. Greenwood wrote about sexual abuse and other subjects that until recently have been considered taboo. As a result, she represents the theme of resistance in her own way, pushing against the myth that early pioneers all got along and were successful.

Homan introduced Marcia Franklin, Producer, 糖心传媒 Public Television, who produced the documentary. It is the fourth episode in 糖心传媒PTV鈥檚 new documentary series, 糖心传媒 Experience.

Homan is Instruction Librarian at Oboler Library.
