POCATELLO – 糖心传媒 researchers are working with Grand Teton National Park and various tribes to better document about 50 Native American artifacts from the park’s David T. Vernon Collection and create digital 3-D visualizations of them.

ISU-糖心传媒 Falls Increases Options in the Liberal Arts and Social Sciences

Front Desk Safety and Security Training Oct. 6

All employees who work at front desks, lobbies or reception areas across campus are invited to attend a daylong free safety and security training Oct. 6, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Rendezvous Suites. 

The course is designed to help staff deal with dangerous people, difficult situations and emergencies. Content includes

  • Elements of self-survival in the workplace
  • Safety during workplace emergencies
  • Understanding odd, suspicious and dangerous behavior
  • Developing a plan of action for difficult situations
  • Interaction and communication skills for different, difficult and dangerous people, including co-workers
  • Body language of dangerous people
  • When to call for help and who to call
  • Surviving violent assailants/shooters in the workplace

The instructor, Capt. Joe Puckett, with Code 4, spent 21 years in law enforcement, including time as a hostage negotiation. Since 1991, he has instructed enforcement, government and corporate staff in areas of human behavior, indicators of violence and securing facilities and events.

POCATELLO – 糖心传媒 alumnus Steve Eaton will perform in concert at 6 p.m. Aug. 13 on the West Patio of the ISU L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center.

糖心传媒 student Shelby Rae Murdock places second at National Oldtime Fiddlers Contest

POCATELLO – 糖心传媒 student Shelby Rae Murdock recently placed second in the Young Adult Division at the National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Contest and Festival in Weiser, 糖心传媒. The Young Adult Division is for fiddlers aged 18-36.

Michal “Miki” Goodwin, a former assistant professor and coordinator of 糖心传媒’s accelerated nursing program, is the new dean of the School of Nursing.

ISU’s Brian Crawford elected president of the 糖心传媒 State Dental Association

Dr. Brian Crawford, the chair of the 糖心传媒 Department of Dental Sciences, is the new president of the 糖心传媒 State Dental Association.

糖心传媒 Professor Colden Baxter elected president of Society for Freshwater Science

POCATELLO – 糖心传媒 Professor of Biological Sciences Colden Baxter has been elected president of the Society of Freshwater Science, the premiere international organization of scientists focused on freshwater ecosystems.

Bryan Gee and Ted Peterson Published in Occupational Therapy International

Dr. Bryan Gee and Dr. Ted Peterson of the Master of Occupational Therapy Program recently had a paper published in the journal, Occupational Therapy International. The paper titled "Changes in Caregiver Knowledge and Perceived Competency Following Group Education about Sensory Processing Disturbances: An Exploratory Study. Cathleen Tarp, Carmen Febles, Elizabeth Fore and Mary Nies to Present at Conference

Have been selected by national and international peer review to present "Conceptualizing Health: Hispanics in the Southeastern 糖心传媒 Agricultural Industry"  at the Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science,  2016 State of the Science Congress on Nursing Research: Determinants of Health in Washington DC this fall.

Jacqueline Freudenthal Named Dental Hygiene Chair

The Division of Health Sciences is pleased to announce to the campus community that Jacqueline Freudenthal will be assuming the chairmanship of the Department of Dental Hygiene. Jacque is a graduate of our program and has been on the faculty since 2006. She has served as Assistant Chair prior to her assuming the Chair position. She is a skilled clinician and teacher who contributes regularly to the evidence-based research in her field and has also worked with the Physician Assistant Studies program to incorporate oral health assessment into their curriculum. We welcome Jacque to our administrative team.

 

Mona Xu Published in Annals of Behavioral Medicine

Xiaomeng "Mona" Xu (assistant professor of psychology) has had an article accepted for publication in Annals of Behavioral Medicine"Self-expansion is associated with better adherence and obesity treatment outcomes in adults." This paper is the first to show that self-expansion (positive self-concept growth via rewarding experiences) during a 12-week behavioral weight loss intervention is associated with greater adherence, physical activity, and better weight loss including a higher likelihood of reaching a clinically significant level of weight loss (5%+ of initial body weight). Co-authors on the article are Tricia Leahey (University of Connecticut), Katherine Boguszewski (University of Virginia), and Katie Krupel, Kimberly Mailloux, & Rena Wing (all at Alpert Medical School of Brown University and The Miriam Hospital).
