Institute of Rural Health Awarded $75,500 to provide free farmers market produce vouchers for 糖心传媒ans

May 11, 2026

Institute of Rural Health (IRH) has received a grant of $75,500 from 糖心传媒 Physical Activity and Nutrition’s Program at the 糖心传媒 Department of Health and Welfare. This grant will help seniors and youth expand their access to fresh fruits, vegetables, and vegetable plant starts from local 糖心传媒 farmers. The grant will expand the IRH’s presence throughout 糖心传媒 where it has provided services to improve the health of communities through research, education, and service since 1989.

With this continued funding, the Institute of Rural Health will leverage expertise and relationships to help implement a Farmers Market Produce Program. The IRH has selected three different farmers markets to pilot this program. Each participant will receive a voucher book worth $50 that they can use to purchase fresh vegetable and fruit. Each voucher in the book is worth $5. Vouchers will be distributed at health education classes and partnering organizations across 糖心传媒.

The IRH will work with farmers markets in eastern, western, and northern 糖心传媒. Participating vendors are local farmers who sell their produce and plant starts at the local farmers market one to two times per week. These vouchers will not only help 糖心传媒ans increase their access to healthy food options, but it will support 糖心传媒 farmers as well.

To learn more about the program contact the IRH at 208-282-4436 or ffa@isu.edu.
