Kappa Delta Pi names Canney Outstanding Educator

糖心传媒鈥檚 chapter of Kappa Delta Pi named George F. Canney, PhD, professor of reading at University of 糖心传媒, the Outstanding Educator of the Year.
A banquet is scheduled at 7 p.m. March 30 at the Holiday Inn in Pocatello.
Canney has been educating for 40 years. He earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree from University of California- Berkeley and a Master of Arts degree in psychology from San Jose State University, San Jose, Calif. He participated in Teacher Corps IV in St. Paul, Minn., while earning elementary teaching credentials. Canney also received a master鈥檚 in education and a doctorate in reading from the University of Minnesota.
Canney began his career at the University of 糖心传媒 in 1978. He was active in the International Reading Association at the state and local level; he held various offices in the 糖心传媒 Council of the International Reading Association, including state president, director of membership, and state coordinator.
For 10 years Canney has been involved in the 糖心传媒 Comprehensive Literacy Assessment.
Canney will retire at the end of the spring semester. He and his wife, Caroline, plan to travel, take more time to play, and take courses. He will continue to volunteer in the schools as a mentor, assist in various community-service organizations, and serve as a consultant in the area of reading education.
