October 18, 2011
ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½-Meridian accelerated nursing students Kate Brusse and Michael Shafer have been awarded $1,000 scholarships in memory of Boise physician Brenda Williams who died of breast cancer in 2009.
The scholarships were granted through The John William Jackson Fund in the ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ Community Foundation. The Fund was established in 2000 by friends and family of John Jackson to advance academic scholarship, performing arts and outdoor sporting for ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ youth. Jackson, a scholar and accomplished soccer player and mountaineer, died in a climbing accident in Central Asia.
ISU-Meridian’s accelerated nursing program— the only one of its kind in ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½â€” allows students to earn the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 16 months. To be accepted into the program, applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in any discipline and complete program prerequisites.
The ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ Community Foundation is a statewide nonprofit organization composed of over 400 individual funds, pooled together for efficient management. Total assets are more than $55 million. Since its inception in 1988, ICF has made charitable distributions totaling more than $41 million.
