Strategy Stage: Stage 5 What you need: Game cards What to do: Shuffle the number cards and deal 3 cards to each player. The remaining cards are placed in a face down pile between the players. Each player tries to form pairs that add to 1000 and place the pairs on the table. The players take turns to take a card from the pile, if they can use it to make a pair they keep the card and place the pair on the table. If not the card is returned to the bottom of the pile. The winner is the first player to pair all of their cards. What to expect your child to do: To use their basic facts to 10 to help them correctly make pairs that add to 1000. For example 3 + 7 = 10 and 300 + 700 = 1000. Variation: Use the fact cards as flash card and ask your child to quickly give you the missing number as you show them the cards.
